So how are you going with those New Year resolutions that you made.  Are you staying true to them or are you starting to fade away?

Well to give you a bit of reinforcement and courage to continue or re-invigorate I thought you might enjoy the video below.

You know it and I know it, its about persistence and wanting the benefits enough to make the sacrifices necessary to achieve them.

So how badly do you want it?

Hang in there

Advance Australia Fair!!!
Monday, January 26th, 2009

So today is Australia Day - January 26th.  Now I’m born and bred DownUnder and I love this country but I’m about to share something with you that would make my friends in the good Ol US of A cringe.  It is some downright unpatriotic behaviour by a fantastic comic in Australia called Adam Hills.  He makes fun of our **wonderful** national anthem in a way that no one else could.

This is some irreverent humour that I hope you’ll enjoy from the Melbourne Comedy Festival.  As for me, I’m going down to the school for a game of cricket with the dads.  Tomorrow I’m going to be seriously sore but it will be worth every bit of it!!

C’mon Aussie - Oi, Oi, Oi!!

Now just in case this is meaningless to you (and clearly you must be from the other hemisphere) then here is the original by Jimmy Barnes (its a classic Aussie hit for us children of the 80’s out here) plus the real Australian national anthem as sung at the Sydney 2000 Olympics

Best to you all
Chris

How To Raise A CEO
Friday, January 23rd, 2009

So what does it take to become a CEO?  Are you interested in giving your kids great lessons when they are young that will help them learn the leadership skills that they will need when they join the workforce.

Below is an interview with Denise Sullivan Morrison by Carol Hymowitz, a columnist for the Wall Street Journal, who had a great article titled, “Raising Women to Be Leaders - The Four Sullivan Sisters Learned to Work Early, Aim High and Try Again.” The article focused on how four sisters (Denise, Maggie, Colleen, and Andrea) were raised to be leaders by their parents. In the article, Hymowitz highlights, “It is rare for four brothers to achieve such levels of success. The fact that they are sisters is striking. Half of all managers in the U.S. are female, but most are stuck in midlevel staff jobs. In senior posts, men outnumber women by almost six to one.” The four sisters are:

  • Denise Sullivan Morrison, 52 years old, is president of Campbell USA at Campbell Soup Co., having advanced through a variety of high-octane jobs at Nestlé SA, Nabisco, Kraft Foods Inc. and other food giants. Denise is featured in the image above right.
  • Maggie Sullivan Wilderotter, 51, is chairman and CEO of Citizens Communications Co., a $2 billion telecommunications company.
  • Colleen Bastkowski, 45, is a regional vice president of sales at Expedia Inc.’s Expedia Corporate Travel.
  • Andrea Doelling, 42, a champion horse jumper now devoting time to equestrian competition, most recently was senior vice president of sales at AT&T Wireless.

Watch the video interview below with Denise as she gives some great advice that she learnt from her father, a senior executive with AT&T when she was young.

I hope you find this as useful as I did and hope that there are some tidbits in there that will help you with your kids.

Best Wishes

Ann

Are You The Goose I Think You Are?
Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

I found this video recently on the Alex Mandossian blog.  We have more from Alex on this website also.  He provides a great link to the video contained below from Saatchi and Saatchi.

It’s all about the lessons we can learn from geese around teamwork.  This certainly provides some thoughts for reflection and got me thinking about some of the things that I’m sure I could do better with.

Watch and enjoy.

To your very best success

Chris

Napoleon Hill - Classic Footage on Success
Sunday, January 11th, 2009

This is a classic recording of Napoleon Hill talking about “Whatever the mind can conceive and believe the mind can achieve”.  Millions of people credit Napoleon Hill’s book “Think and Grow Rich” with being what inspired them to start on their own journey to financial success and I know that it has also provided me inspiration in my quest for family success also.  The main presenter of the “The Secret”, Bob Proctor tells the story of being a fireman in Canada in the early 1960’s making $4000 per year and owing $6000 and how this book changed his life.  If you Google Bob Proctor now you’ll find he is a multi-multi-millionaire with massive business interests that change people’s lives.

Enjoy Napoleon Hill with where it all started.

Here’s to your own success, however you define it for yourself.

The Value of Persistence
Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

I’ll bet you have heard the story about how Winston Churchill gave a simple speech to leavers of the Harrow School in England:

On October 29, 1941, U.K. Prime Minister Winston Churchill visited Harrow School to to hear the traditional songs he had sung there as a youth, as well as to speak to the students. When he was invited to give a speech, Churchill stood before the students and said,

“Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, give up. Never give up. Never give up. Never give up.”

To be successful in your life and business, here is what Winston Churchill told us:

The pessimist sees the problems in every opportunity. Whereas the optimist sees the opportunity in every problem”

“Never give in, never give in, never; never; never; never - in nothing, great or small, large or petty - never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense”

Well, I recently came across a more modern tale of the same sort of thing.  It’s got to do with Sylvester Stallone and his determination and conviction to become an actor.

Listen to Tony Robbins below as he shares the story that Sylvester Stallone told him directly.

The part I love about this is his commitment to his dog.  He knew he’d had to do a terrible thing and he stopped at nothing to rectify it and make it right.  Partly from guilt, but mostly from love.

May we all get to know that sort of commitment to the true causes in our lives and achieving the things that will truly make us happy and fulfil our dreams.

To your success (and determination)

Crafting a 40000ft Life Vision
Sunday, January 4th, 2009

I’ve just been catching up after the New Year and a few days away with the family on North Stradbroke Island at Point Lookout.  Wow, what a venue.  Fantastic three days of nothing but swimming and playing on the beach.  Extremely therapeutic.

Anyway, it means I’m a bit behind on working through my Google Reader subscriptions (if you haven’t set this up yet, then go ahead, its gold if you are trying to follow certain topics across the internet).

I came across a fantastic blog post from the folks at  GTD Times.  For those of you who don’t know GTD is short for “Getting Things Done” and is a time management approach that can be very effective.  Anyway, the topic of the post is about setting up a 40000ft vision for your life. They provide a couple of useful tools to help you plan this out and I highly encourage you to follow the link below and have a read.

Let me know how you go by leaving a comment below. I’d love to know what you think.

Life on The Tightrope
Friday, January 2nd, 2009

As 2009 begins many of us are wondering what the New Year will bring.  It is a time of resolution forming and goal setting, but will you really follow through on your plans.  Will you really fulfill your dreams and aspirations or be a spectator?  It really is up to you.

I came across this video on YouTube which might provide you some food for thought.  So will 2009 represent a year of economic toughness or the greatest opportunity we have ever seen?  Its up to you.

Here’s to your success in 2009.
