Free Hugs For All!
Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

This is beautiful.  In one video it captures both the human weakness and beauty.  The weakness in that we are inherently suspicious and unwilling to engage strangers and also the beauty of when we do.

Life is beautiful.  Hug a stranger.

Best wishes until next time

A Pale Blue Dot
Friday, July 10th, 2009

Watch and listen as Carl Sagan helps us revel in our own significance.  Watch as he highlights our pettiness, our futile feelings of self importance when compared against the pale blue dot.

…and yet our ultimate brilliance, self reliance and mutual interdependence seems even more important as a result.

The Pale Blue Dot.

Fly Me To The Moon
Monday, April 13th, 2009

I was talking to a friend the other day and they made an interesting observation to me that I thought had great parallels with how we live our own lives.

Did you know that a rocket ship uses the most energy when it is off course? It has to fire its thrusters for a period of time until it get backs to its main line course when it can turn them off again.  When it is on track and cruising it is expending the least amount of energy

Rocket Ship Take Off

This seems like a huge parallel to me in our lives. When we are in our ‘flow’ life is easy.  Things just happen the way we want them to and life is fun.  When we are ‘off course’ and out of our ‘flow’ everything seems difficult and it can be a struggle to just get up in the mornings.  It’s a useful analogy for us to remember about whether we are living our true purpose.  If life is flowing and things are happening easily and naturally it’s a high likelihood that we are on purpose (on course). If, however, everything seems to be going wrong, we are getting frustrated and life is hard then chances are we are not on purpose.

Think about it next time you find yourself in this position and perhaps it will give you the impetus to fire the rocket boosters towards something more appealing.

Here’s to finding your flow!

Advance Australia Fair!!!
Monday, January 26th, 2009

So today is Australia Day - January 26th.  Now I’m born and bred DownUnder and I love this country but I’m about to share something with you that would make my friends in the good Ol US of A cringe.  It is some downright unpatriotic behaviour by a fantastic comic in Australia called Adam Hills.  He makes fun of our **wonderful** national anthem in a way that no one else could.

This is some irreverent humour that I hope you’ll enjoy from the Melbourne Comedy Festival.  As for me, I’m going down to the school for a game of cricket with the dads.  Tomorrow I’m going to be seriously sore but it will be worth every bit of it!!

C’mon Aussie - Oi, Oi, Oi!!

Now just in case this is meaningless to you (and clearly you must be from the other hemisphere) then here is the original by Jimmy Barnes (its a classic Aussie hit for us children of the 80’s out here) plus the real Australian national anthem as sung at the Sydney 2000 Olympics

Best to you all
Chris

Are You The Goose I Think You Are?
Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

I found this video recently on the Alex Mandossian blog.  We have more from Alex on this website also.  He provides a great link to the video contained below from Saatchi and Saatchi.

It’s all about the lessons we can learn from geese around teamwork.  This certainly provides some thoughts for reflection and got me thinking about some of the things that I’m sure I could do better with.

Watch and enjoy.

To your very best success

Napoleon Hill - Classic Footage on Success
Sunday, January 11th, 2009

This is a classic recording of Napoleon Hill talking about “Whatever the mind can conceive and believe the mind can achieve”.  Millions of people credit Napoleon Hill’s book “Think and Grow Rich” with being what inspired them to start on their own journey to financial success and I know that it has also provided me inspiration in my quest for family success also.  The main presenter of the “The Secret”, Bob Proctor tells the story of being a fireman in Canada in the early 1960’s making $4000 per year and owing $6000 and how this book changed his life.  If you Google Bob Proctor now you’ll find he is a multi-multi-millionaire with massive business interests that change people’s lives.

Enjoy Napoleon Hill with where it all started.

Here’s to your own success, however you define it for yourself.

The Value of Persistence
Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

I’ll bet you have heard the story about how Winston Churchill gave a simple speech to leavers of the Harrow School in England:

On October 29, 1941, U.K. Prime Minister Winston Churchill visited Harrow School to to hear the traditional songs he had sung there as a youth, as well as to speak to the students. When he was invited to give a speech, Churchill stood before the students and said,

“Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, give up. Never give up. Never give up. Never give up.”

To be successful in your life and business, here is what Winston Churchill told us:

The pessimist sees the problems in every opportunity. Whereas the optimist sees the opportunity in every problem”

“Never give in, never give in, never; never; never; never - in nothing, great or small, large or petty - never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense”

Well, I recently came across a more modern tale of the same sort of thing.  It’s got to do with Sylvester Stallone and his determination and conviction to become an actor.

Listen to Tony Robbins below as he shares the story that Sylvester Stallone told him directly.

The part I love about this is his commitment to his dog.  He knew he’d had to do a terrible thing and he stopped at nothing to rectify it and make it right.  Partly from guilt, but mostly from love.

May we all get to know that sort of commitment to the true causes in our lives and achieving the things that will truly make us happy and fulfil our dreams.

To your success (and determination)

Life on The Tightrope
Friday, January 2nd, 2009

As 2009 begins many of us are wondering what the New Year will bring.  It is a time of resolution forming and goal setting, but will you really follow through on your plans.  Will you really fulfill your dreams and aspirations or be a spectator?  It really is up to you.

I came across this video on YouTube which might provide you some food for thought.  So will 2009 represent a year of economic toughness or the greatest opportunity we have ever seen?  Its up to you.

Here’s to your success in 2009.

2009 - Bring it On!
Monday, December 29th, 2008

Well my family and I are heading off to North Stradbroke Island (Straddie to the locals today) for a few days to hang out with friends.  Their kids are around the same age as ours so it should be good fun.  I’ve bought some fishing rods for the kids so looking forward to throwing a line in and see how they go with them.  We’ll be spending New Years Eve on the island so I thought I’d put together a last blog post for 2008.

Its been a tumultuous year for sure.  There have been some great things happen and there have been some not so great things.  Much wealth has been lost and stories are starting to come out how people entrusted to do the best for their clients have in fact squandered it.

For me, I’m finishing the year with family in a relaxing environment because when you boil it all down that is what is important.  Being around the ones you love and spending time with them.  My wish for 2009 is that we all will get to do more of that.

I found this video on YouTube recently entitled “The Auld Lang Syne Millenium Mix” which should give some food for thought and reflection.

Take a few minutes to reflect on where we have come from over so many years, and all the events that have happened, that we have survived and then thrived from.  The events of 2008 are no different.  We will survive.  We will thrive.  After you have reflected, take a pen and paper, take some time and write down the things that are really important to you in 2009.  Pick your top 3 and commit to make them happen.

To your success in 2009.
